標題: 給加拿大大學一些自豪... 真人真事..
一個星期一的早晨, 幾位個剛畢業的大學生早早來到了紐約Times Square的一棟高樓里. 這將是他們工作的第一天, 大家都期待著這天早晨的會議. 這次會議是為這些剛招來的大學生而開的, 這家公司總裁將會出席這次會議 .  會議還有好幾分鐘才開始, 也許是因為大家彼此都還沒見過面也許是由於這位國際赫赫有名的總裁在, 大家只是靜靜的等待著缺席的人.  一位女孩終於打破了沉默. "我叫---, 剛從Princeton大學畢業, 請問大家都是哪個大學畢業的?" 話匣子一打開, 大家都紛紛說出自己的大學名字, 其中還夾雜這幾聲大家的驚訝"wow". 最後輪到這位女孩說話了,

她遲疑了一下, "University of Waterloo".

大家忽然安靜了下來, 幾乎所有人都皺著眉頭努力的思考著這所也許很出名的大學的名字. 但他們似乎什麼都想不出來.

那個女孩繼續問了, "請問這所大學在哪兒"

"在Waterloo"

"Waterloo 在哪兒."

"在Ontario"

"加拿大的Ontario?"

"嗯"

"哦實在是對不起, 對加拿大不是很了解. 你能說出你們學校的大概位置嗎?"

"那你知道加拿大哪兒呢" 女孩反問了一句

"我知道多倫多大學的位置."女孩想了想說.

"Waterloo離多倫多開車一個小時左右."

"Oh.." 大家似乎像發現了新大陸一樣, 不過這個女孩還是不太死心, 覺得這兒其他幾位怎麼說也是在幾所有名的大學讀過書, 這位怎麼會去一個自己從來沒聽說過的大學讀書呢?

"你是學什麼的?"

"我是學精算的"

"你為什麼會去那個學校呢?" 問話中已經流露了一絲不懈, 當然更多的還是疑問不解.

"um......." 這個女孩正在想該怎麼回答.  這位在旁一直沒有說話的總裁說話了.

"因為University of Waterloo的精算是全北美最好的."

真實的不能在真實的故事..

可大多數人不知道University of Waterloo也是正常的。

一般在Waterloo學精算畢業生沒畢業全北美的各大公司都去學校找人。

如果是Waterloo學精算還需要自己去紐約Times Square的一棟高樓里自己找工作

那隻能說明這個人是個騙子，不是學精算的。別說高樓里的人不知道你Waterloo是哪兒了，

你跟人家提胡錦濤他們會更糊塗的。當然不能因為他們不知道胡哥是誰就懷疑胡哥的知名度吧。

隔行如隔山，很正常。

Waterloo學精算是百分百的鐵飯碗。

實習期學生4萬美金起價。正好我認識的小留學生，來加拿大5年，

Waterloo學精算，現在剛畢業實習，底特律實習，年薪五萬美子了，

一個人租了個兩千美子一個月的單元房，不服不行呀。

問題是沒幾個人能考得過的。

Another fact about Univeristy of Waterloo:

Mr. Mike Lazaridis , the President and Co-CEO of "Research In Motion" (best-known product is "Blackberry") founded the company while he was a student at the University of Waterloo. Many collegues that I work with use "Blackberry" everyday, but they barely know the Canadian company "Research In Motion" which is located in Waterloo, let alone the University of Waterloo.

就算UW是一般的大學,文中提問的人也太沒教養,照她的意思,人家牛頓和愛因斯坦之流的就甭混了,乾脆回家種地得了.

It was a joke by comparing to Beijing. Relax.

It is a fact that 精算 and computer of Waterloo are top level in North America.

But the university is still at the level of ????? How can it compare with Priceton? Even in Canada, it is a young university without medical school.

The best universities in Canada are U of Toronto, McGill, British Columbia, Queens, Western Ontario,...for example, McGill Medical School is at the same level as those in Harvard, Califonia, Stanford, Hopkins,.. is real world level.

Mcgill medical student 剛畢業實習，USA實習，年薪at least 10萬美子了

實習期大概沒這麼高，不過醫的淘汰律也是非常高的，

也不是一般人都能學過的，所以那個精算和這個醫都是好的，沒什麼比較價值。

而北大的文，想進去也是萬里挑一的，可這麼優秀的人畢業了還沒有百分百的

鐵飯碗，這就問題了。我的比較是化多少力應該得多少回報，

北大文學生的回報是不高的。

你擺出來的事實是沒有問題的，

但不知道你想說明什麼問題？

Waterloo學精算並不是鐵飯碗, 如果你能考完所有的考試的話那到可以說是鐵飯碗了. 不過要考完所有的考試, 需要5,6 年的時間和不斷的努力加毅力而且每個考試只有50%左右的成功率, 所以能成鐵飯碗到也不奇怪了.

你這位小留學生可以介紹給我認識認識, 不過說不定到頭來大家都認識.. 哈哈...

我完全沒有把University of Waterloo和其它加拿大大學做比較的意思.
每個大學都有它獨有的一面,這個故事並沒有貶低其他學校的意思.
我之所以講這個真實的故事給大家聽,無非就是讓大家能夠對這所大學有更好的了解.
作為一名該大學的學生, 我只是想推廣一下自己的學校, 為自己所在的學校自豪一下. This is the least I can do.

我也希望大家有更多的故事, 讓大家對加拿大的另外一些大學也有更深的了解.
