Arnold Kunzli 在《卡爾·馬克思心志》一書中寫道：馬克思的兩個女兒和一個女婿自殺了，另外三個孩子死於營養不良。馬克思的女兒 Laura 嫁給了一名社會主義者 Lafargue，她埋葬了自己的三個親生骨肉，然後與丈夫一起自殺。另一個女兒 Eleanor 決定和她丈夫做同樣的事，她死了，而他丈夫卻在最後一刻退縮了。
