溫室氣體 - 主要是水蒸汽和比例很小的二氧化碳，甲烷和一氧化二氮 - 充當地球的毛毯，吸收熱量保持一個能維持生命支持平均為59華氏度（15攝氏度）。實際上二氧化碳是在該毛毯占約0.04％。水蒸氣起著溫室效應的最顯著作用。太陽是我們的氣候的唯一熱源。金星是接近太陽，這樣的氣候是沒有水，只有二氧化碳，是地球的300倍。表面溫度熱到足以熔化鉛。火星有一個非常稀薄的大氣，幾乎所有的二氧化碳，沒有水，遠離太陽。火星有一個基本上冷凍面。恐怕有人喜歡讀英文，特翻譯如下：
